I am trying to get a concrete feel for the meaning of:

どうしたもこうしたも

I know it can't be literally translated into English, so I was wondering if somebody could explain the most typical usage of this phrase? I had somebody explain it as similar to とにかく, but that doesn't seem quite right to me. Is どうしたもこうしたも a more exasperated expression?

Thanks for any input on this. bigsmile.gif

Usually you find this as どうしたもこうしたもない or with the emphatic ないよ at the end. Many times it implies that the speaker is angry or in a state of shock. It's as if the speaker is saying "I don't think I have to go again over the details of this and that, that you know got me so upset, but..." It is used as an interjection and upon context it can have various meanings, resembling phrases such as: For chrissakes! For crying out loud! Can you believe it? You know...?!

Thank you for the helpful answer!

That definitely makes sense now. I got the feeling it was an exasperated thing to say, so now I get it.
