I am utterly baffled by the Master Level calculations. I've been going through some grammar quizzes, and started noticing that correct answers actually don't seem to mean anything. For example, I've been tracking my progress with つまり. I answer correctly and get a mastery % of 25%. The next right answer gives me a mastery level of 29%. Well, that's good. The third right answer drops me back to 25%. Sometimes, 29 goes to 33, but then drops back to 25% after another right answer.

What is going on here? I've never actually answered an incorrect question with this particular word, so I fail to understand why I am unable to progress beyond 33% at the top level.

That sounds incorrect, I completely agree. (Apologies for the late reply - I was on a work trip). Grammar terms do move up more slowly than vocab/kanji, but it should never drop down on a right answer. A few questions before I look into it more.

a)Is this in a study schedule, or through a single grammar lesson?

b)If it is the latter, is the issue occurring across multiple quizzes, or within a single quiz?

I can answer the question about the 33% now. I need to update the FAQ entry, but this one does exist in the FAQ under the last group, "Vocab/Kanji". 33% is the same as level 3, which (leads me to believe you are doing a single quiz) is the max level you can raise a quiz under non-schedule quizzing.

Schedule quizzing is ideal in that it spaces out quizzing for whatever you are studying so you can maximize time by not studying something too much and simply push it around in short term memory. You can get a term up to 3 through the vanilla study method, but need to use schedule to push it further (or simply start with schedules).

Were this not a case, a user would be able to push a term to a mastery level of 9 (or 100%) simply by studying the same lesson 9 times in a row in a single day.

I hope this makes sense, and I'm going to update the FAQ wording now. Please let me know about the other two questions, and I'll be happy to look into those.

Yes, that does make sense in an odd way. I was studying it via the Learn/Study Library/Grammar/N3 lessons. I prefer these to the scheduled lessons because there are many more questions for each term. I would really like it if these in-depth reviews could be scheduled as, say, review lessons or something.

On another note, I notice that Mastery Percent on the doesn't actually correlate with the terms on the https://www.renshuu.org/study page. For example, Verb helpers 1 shows a 0% mastery, but the individual terms are 16/20/25/12%. Maybe I just don't understand how these are calculated...

The % numbers look wrong, rebuilding them now. Also looking into why they are acting that way so it won't happen again.
