Reward: six months of renshuu pro for a fully reproducible example of the issue.
(If you give information that leads to a fix, you'll also receive it!)

Issue: Even though a kanji appears as known (lightbulb turned on) in the dictionary, it appears as grey in a list or quiz.
Exampledsq6qv00ye8gronj5wnjbdmbg.png In this case, the user knows the kanji , as is shown when the click the kanji and view it the dictionary. It will show with the lightbulb icon turned on.

Places where it occurs: inside of quizzes. Not known to appear in standalone lists.

Warnings when testing: When a term is
a)marked with a specific mastery level
b)studied for the first time (= a question is answered on it in a quiz)

The current "known" kanji is marked onto the word. After that point, the displayed kanji doesn't change unless your kanji knowledge changes.
In other words, if you see this issue appear in a quiz
a)on the "new terms in this quiz" page (this is ideal for reproducing the issue)
b)in a question

The ability to see what is causing the error will disappear if you actually answer the question for that term.

So, if you see this issue, you must
a)report to this thread, or send an in-quiz report
b)STOP studying that lesson/schedule
c)do NOT answer the question on the particular term.

This should allow me to reproduce the issue.

It's a very rare bug, but one that has been around for quite some time.

I am not sure if it was fixed or not but this time the above word appeared normally for me. The only different thing I did was turning on the "Show kanji for common hiragana terms" in the Kanji settings according to the Admin's advice regarding a different matter. I am not sure if the problem disappeared for me yet since it's only been one time I encountered it so far.

It appeared normally for you because i ran the reset script before posting the original message, which corrects all the information. That's it, unfortunately!

I need more details about this bug:
1. What type of vocab quizz are you doing? Can you send a screenshot with your settings before starting the quizz?
2. Are you using the PC or mobile version?
3. When did you mark the kanji as known? During the quizz or before it?
4. In what part of the quizz do you see the kanji of the word as unknown? In the button of the multiple choice question? In the question above those buttons? Because I just can see it in gray color after answer the question.
5. This happen with any kanji or some ones?
6. What navigator are you using? Chrome, Mozilla, IE?
7. Besides, what settings are you using? Can you send screenshots of every menu (Kanji, Dictionary, Quizzing, etc.)?
8. What are the standalone lists? Where can I see the word from there?

All the information can be useful.

Not sure which one it was because I was going through fast and had already clicked 'next' by the time I noticed it, but the in either てはまる or める was grey in my regular schedule today.

Unfortunately, it's gotta be reproducible otherwise it'll be almost impossible to root out.

Found one while grammar quizzing, one of the new n2 terms popped up like this:

Did you hold on that quizzing, or continue with it?

Found the schedule. Sadly, it did not replicate when I pulled it up.

@mysticfive - if you see it again, reload that page and then see if it changes. I have a theory to test.

Got one. It's in the "My Words" list in the study center. Definitely marked as known in the dictionary.

Did you do anything to interact with either that term or that kanji recently?

No. Was looking in my words for something else and found that. It's level nine (both term and kanji), so I haven't seen it for a while.

That triggered a half-dozen terms I haven't seen for a while.
Was it the bug or something else?

It's presumably a bug. It is almost impossible to replicate, so the best I can do is just rebuild the bindings from time to time (at least, until I find the bug).
