I've seen ちゃんとわなきゃわかんないよ translated as:

"I won't understand if you don't say it right."

or as per google translate:

"I do not understand it unless I say it properly."

I understand everything about this sentence except where the "if/unless" comes from.

なきゃ is a contraction of なければ. It translates as "unless one" or "if one does not".  The first translation is the most accurate.

Both なきゃ and わなきゃ are in the site dictionary.
