During my trip to Japan in July 2017, I made this picture in Matsuzaki, Izu peninsula. The old man walks to the beach regularly and every time he brings back one nice pebble. This is his whole collection. He watered them, for us, to show the nice colors when they're wet.

One easily gets the funny thought: huh, is he watering these stones because he thinks they're gonna grow, or what?".

I think most people can resonate with that urge to pick up a really nice, smooth, colorful pebble when you find out on the beach!

Yeah, rocks are pretty. The guy watering stones is cool.

I like really nice stones and they're pretty when they're smooth and wet. They shine so I get the appeal.
