Well, I think I have wonderful news! I haven't tested all the way out, but doing vocabulary fill-in-the-blank questions is working on Safari on Catalina.
If this works, then the way I fixed it would have indeed been impossible to pull out without a Safari to test it on - very weird fix.
If anyone else can verify this for me, please let me know!
