This problem regard this sentence under 各自:
夕食なのですが、各自用意でも差し支えありませんか?
For dinner, is it OK if you handle each of the preparations?
As you might have noticed, the translation seems off, therefore I've just had this conversation with a japanese native:
Now the problem here is not a mistake in the english translation, the problem here is that that one sentence had been approved by a Native Speaker here on renshuu and had a golden Star.
So here the cases are 2:
1) either some sentence is incorrectly getting the gloden star, which would be a bug
2) I dare to say it, the native which approved that sentence is a "fake", maybe pretending to be a japanese native, because I don't believe a japanese native would ever misunderstood that sentence that bad, if even I got the correct meaning.
Or option 3) it is a simple mistake that can happen and it is good that it was found?
The English would sound correct already if we just changed the position of two words, so I would find it feasible if this would just be a case of an innocent mistake/mix-up:
Original: For dinner, is it OK if you handle each of the preparations?
Revised: For dinner, is it OK if each of you handle the preparations?
Of course, this should ideally not happen for items that are marked with the gold star, but perfection cannot be expected for anything where humans are involved (^_^) - I do not know how exactly the native sentence confirmation works (i.e. if it is one native checking them or if it is multilayered where multiple native speakers check the sentences and all have to approve it or similar; also: are the native Japanese speakers having a similar fluent grasp of the English language?).
But even then: I certainly know from my line of work that even in an environment where 3 experts are reviewing the same thing little things slip through from time to time and are labeled "correct" until a 4th person comes along and questions why we can all be so blind (¬_¬")
@SirEdgar: I hope is that, but in the interest of hunting bugs and improving the site I always preferr to only consider the worst scenarios ;)
Thanks for bringing this up. It is #3, not one or two. There is no faking possible, as there is only one native speaker working for renshuu, and I think you can guess who it is. She handles the Japanese, I do the English. This is a sentence that was already in the system and looked over, so I must have not read the English closely enough. My apologies for that. I'll fix it as soon as I send this message!
I adjusted the English to this: For dinner, is it OK if each person handles their own (meal)?
