Having added a beginners mode to shiritori, I'd like to keep pushing and make the question corner more friendly. I am really happy to see the number of responses in the last couple of months, but I think we can do better.
Proposal: two versions of the Question Corner page, where you can easily toggle back and forth between them (unlike shiritori, there will be no restrictions on which area you can participate in.
A. Intermediate area will be the same as what is present now - one question a month.
B. Beginner area will have 4-5 questions a month. all centered around a theme or topic (these topics might repeat each year, haven't decided). The questions will be N5 level for the most part. but there will be a range of difficulty among the questions each month.
Example categories and questions:
Introductions
お名前は何ですか？ / What is your name
出身はどこですか? / Where are you from?
何歳ですか？ / How old are you?
兄弟はいますか？ / Do you have any brothers or sisters?
自己紹介をしてください。 / Please introduce yourself (which we just had recently)
Interests
趣味はなんですか？ / What are your hobbies?
どんな料理は好きですか？ / What food do you like?
苦手な科目はありますか？What subject are you bad at?
And so on. Each month would therefore have simpler questions that can be answered by almost anyone. The majority of new users come in with little or no Japanese, so this would be more accessible to them.
