Hello,
I’ve recently gotten into Renshuu to assist in my vocabulary. However, I’m having trouble adjusting from the Anki method. I’d prefer to only have input options where I have to type the correct answer, for i) English -> Kana / Kanji, ii) Kana / Kanji -> English iii) Kanji -> Kana.
Also from what I can tell vocabulary only refreshes once per day even when your learning from the first time, and only one type. I would quite like to have to practice more than once per day (1st after 4 hours, second after 12 etc), and also to have to do both english -> kana and kana -> english to pass the schedule review. Is this possible?
Many thanks,
Chris
Two things:
1. You can definitely adjust the quiz question styles the way you'd like. I'd check two places:
a) First, tap the settings button next to the quiz button, then go to "Schedule settings". At the bottom, you'll see a way to adjust vectors, which is what we use to describe things like "english > kana", "kanji > kana", etc.
b)After saving that, press the settings button once more, and you, just before starting the quiz, will see some checkboxes you can use to give preference to fill-in-the-blank!
2. While you can adjust the number of days (global Settings > Quizzing) between mastery levels, renshuu does not support less than 24 hours per review. This is not automatic, of course, but once you have finished studying for the day, you can always use the Extra Review button for additional studies.
At the moment, once you answer a question correctly, you will not see it again that day for any vector. This is intentional, although I completely understand where you are coming from, and it may be something I can add a setting for in the future. The reason I chose to do this is because if you see a term in any vector, it is going to *dramatically* decrease the chance that, if you were to see it in another vector, you could reliably say that you are pulling that knowledge from memory (and not recalling it because you just saw it a few hours ago).
So for the second thing, as flexible as renshuu is, it does not yet allow that. I do like the idea, and I'll look into adding it. It may be something I can do in a few minutes, or it may be something that could take hours/days - I need to look more closely into how I set up the levelling system when it was introduced so many years ago.
Thanks in advance for your understanding!
Chris,
So, I wanted to give your #2 a shot, and it *looks* like it might be extremely easy to do. If you'd like, I can enable it for your account only if you want to test it. Please let me know!

Hello, this sounds good as I want to move from anki to renshuu for srs and overall learning.
Can you enable this edit option for me too?

That would be amazing. I would love to test it out!
I've got good news for ya - I had someone test it out, and it's working great! It'll become available tomorrow (I always like to do larger updates on a Monday morning so I can monitor for errors) - I will post here when it's available!
It's available! If you tap the settings icon next to the study button, then go to Schedule Settings, you should see it in there.
Thanks so much! *(^O^)* It's working well as designed.
I just have a few bits of feedback which hopefully you find helpful:
Thanks so much!
1. Yes, this would be expected when using this.
2. I will think about this for a future feature, but yes, I could see how this would be helpful!
3. Unfortunately, this is a no-go. I'm not disagreeing with you, but the entire mastery system is based on a unit of days, not hours. This was a decision made probably 10+ years ago, and it would take a monumental amount of work to make this relatively small change :(
Thanks for responding so promptly!
Re. point 3, I think what might help this is being able to select the same amount of time intervals between mastery levels. I learn best where I see a term repeatedly for the first few days and then it tapers off gradually. Ideally, I would like to at least have the following:
Levels
But because the current restriction means I need to have a higher interval than the previous level, it means I can't input levels 1-4 in the way that I would like.
This you can do :). Go to settings for the app (in the menu). Make sure Advanced settings is toggled on. Go to the Quizzing category, and it's at the bottom!
Thanks! I've tried that though, but when I enter the settings as described above I get an error back:
Oh, I added that rule so long ago, but I just removed it so the days can have the same amount (just not less than the previous level).
