So I wanted to add the verb conjugations to my schedule (Learn > Lesson center > searching Verb conjugations.

But I only seem to study it there. Is there a way to add the first part of this lesson to my schedules ?

Thanks in advance

There is not :(. The Verb Conjugations, Adjective conjugations, Counters, and Verb Transitivity lessons are special, and only live in the Lesson Center.

Your request is a common one, though. I do want to blend them into the schedules one day, but it will require some tricky work to make the integration.

I would also love an option to schedule these. The interface design is one of the least intuitive I have ever seen. Loads of great content, but so hard to use.

Thanks for the candid feedback. For both better and worse, I made a decision many years ago for renshuu to cover as much as possible - words, kanji, grammar, sentences, games, community activities, and more. We are always aiming to clean up or simplify the interface, but it will *never* be as simple as other apps out there, simply because we offer so much! Although I hope to get more standalone apps set up in the future, I don't plan on trying to split up renshuu so you can focus on one thing at a time.

There actually are a few of the conjugations available in renshuu's grammar library, they just are of a different style than the Verb Conjugation quizzes in the Lesson Center (and that's one of the reasons they are not referred to here, although I may change that).

For those reading, one of the difficulties in really integrating the conjugations is because conjugations are ultimately spelling based. With all the other grammar forms in renshuu, while there may be slightly different uses (for example, coming after a noun compared to coming after a verb), they are set up in a way where each question answered correctly boosts the mastery level a bit.

What I worry about with verbs, though, is that there are 9? (ish) different verb endings, and each one typically has a different spelling. So unless the grammar quizzing system is somewhat radically reworked, there is not a good way to force a user through a question for every spelling variation for every mastery level. If it was done now, you may get a question on する once, then かく next, then たべる after that. You could jump up a few mastery levels without getting to many of the verb endings.

Additionally, these questions really work best as fill-in-the-blank, and that is not built into the grammar schedules.

So, while I am not at all happy with the separation between these conjugation quizzes and the grammar schedules, I would personally prefer to leave them here for access instead of saying something like "all lessons must be add-able to the schedules, so these have to go" (and moving them elsewhere in the menu system would only further increase the complexity of renshuu as a whole)."

If I am able to come up with a way around these issues, I will *definitely* make them schedule available. I hope this brings to light a few of the reasons why things are the way they are, though!

What I would personally like is a button that sets up renshuu to have one big schedule starts from the basics and works its way to advanced. I know it does a little version of that when first setting up. But at the moment setting renshuu up to cover the important stuff is hard. Even a step by step to achieve this would help, so then at least we could be certain that eventually after enough study would have covered most stuff. Im also unclear is it possible to mix content from different types of schedules ie a grammer one and a word under the same schedule?

Because settings, question types, etc. are different, the schedules are separated by type. renshuu caters to a huge range of people and their goals, study styles, etc, so many people like to focus on words one day, kanji another, or skip grammar, etc.

renshuu does step you through to each level, though. Without seeing what's on your specific dashboard, each time you clear out all the new materials in a schedule, renshuu lets you know that, and gives you suggestions about what schedules you can jump into next. So it is there, it just doesn't tell you all of that at the beginning.

I know that some people like more explanation and clarity at the beginning, while others like to just jump right into it. Over the years, I've tried many different variations of how much to explain to a user when they are first getting started with renshuu. In general, users seem to stick around and study more if the path between registration and learning is as short as possible.

It's a really hard balance to strike - I am personally of the type that I prefer to have more explanation at the top of things, but without giving out numbers, a *huge* number of users will stop partway through the explanation without even getting to the good things that renshuu has - the learning, all the data, the motivation tools, games, etc.

If you'd like to tell me where you feel you are with regards to Japanese, I can take a look at your account and make some suggestions. Usually, though, most users have 3-4 schedules max (at least for a few months), and then they will cycle those out for new ones (recommended by renshuu) as they finish them.

Let me know! I'd be happy to help.

Im a beginner maybe jlpt4, but I like to be tested on basic stuff to make sure i dont forget. Feel free to alter my setup how ever you think will work :)

Grammar and vocab and conjugations are the things i like to drill as i find them hard to keep in my head.

Since i have only been using for a few days i dont mind restarting.

@マイコー

Here's an idea that might work. Make the adjective and verb conjugations there own separate categories (like kanji, vocab, grammar, sentences are categories)

They are in grammar right now, but they are different from the rest (from both a learner and developer perspective).

From a learners perspective (or maybe just my perspective), the ideal would be I have my separate verb conjugation schedule, and each of the conjugation types (polite present, casual present negative, passive form, etc.) would be vectors. To make sure there is appropriate coverage, the "study terms" that would go up in mastery would be these 11 (or 12) verb categories: u, ku, gu, su, tsu, nu, bu, mu, godan ru, ichidan ru, suru, and finally kuru (possibly also have a separate one for iku because it can be strange too).

At different stage of the learning journey learners activate the different vectors. When learners start out they will only want the polite masu form vectors activated. Later on they activate the casual form and te vectors. After that the passive, causative, and causative passive.

Similar thing for the adjective conjugations.

If this is reasonable, I would like to submit this as a renshuu project proposal.

Edit: (Perhaps it would better to make the study terms specific to a conjugation type. And when a new conjugation type was added you would add 11 (or 12) study terms for the verb ending + conjugation type)

@Terry Wallwork - so, I just jumped into your account, and it looks like you might have done some housekeeping yourself? How does it feel now with that number of schedules? Is there anything you still feel is missing, and are not sure how to add?

@Anonymous123 - for simplicity's sake, I am extremely hesitant to adding more schedule types. The logical extension of this is 4 more schedule types, not 1: verb conjugations, adjective conjugations, counters, and verb transitivity (the four grammar quiz types that are currently only in the lesson center). The other user's concerns about the complexity of renshuu are completely founded, and my goal for 2022 is to work on that, not compound it :(

The system you are proposing does make sense, but would be extremely difficult to implement from a developmental perspective. Not impossible, but an extremely large amount of work compared to what the users would get out of it. The study terms you are describing just won't fit in the way the system is built now. Any explanation beyond this would require knowledge of renshuu's database and programming setup, so I unfortunately cannot elaborate beyond this and have it make any sense.

Several of the verb conjugation patterns DO have grammar library (and therefore, grammar quizzes in the schedules) entries. Now, they do suffer from the abovementioned problem that there is not a good way to make sure they get a good balance across all the spelling rules, but it is better than nothing. I'm just not sure if those were linked up here, they'd be sufficient.

I am completely fine with you proposal the idea as a project - although I will not be able to accept it as is for the given reasons. That would give us a good place to gauge interest as well as brainstorm ideas until we are able to come up with something workable.

@マイコー Yes I squashed down some related schedules. For verbs and adj drills, if I understand correctly I can make my own lesson content and add that to a schedule? So I may just take the content from the lesson menus and create something as near as I can to that in a private lesson schedule.

Any lessons you make can be added to a schedule, yes! It may be tricky "fitting" the materials in those special quizzes into a standard word list, but are really no restrictions on the data you put in, so you can definitely give it a go!

If a schedule is a folder, then lessons are a sheet of paper with a list of materials on them :).
