Why do readings sometimes show this pattern:
(hiragana) - ( . ) - (hiragana)
Why the use of "."
i don't have the character sets on phone but like the kanji for 3, kunyomi shows as mi (ya) . tsu for mitsu
The hiragana after the dot is the hiragana for that will follow the reading of that kanji (the first hiragana), so 3 三 つ(み・つ/mi-tsu). It's just letting you know what the rest of the word is after the kanji
