If the same word appears in two different schedules, do both have the same mastery? For example, I'm going through the beginner vocab schedule right now. If I decide to make a JLPT N5 schedule after I'm done using the Japanese index tool, I'm sure I'll see some terms repeated. If I mark them as "don't study" does that mean I won't be able to review them in my other schedule? I don't want to mess anything up lol

Mastery, the "Known" flag, and the "ignore term" flags are stored with each item (vocab, kanji, sentence) directly. So if you have the same term in more than one schedule it will have the same mastery across all of them (by study vector).

This also means that if you have two schedules with the same term [for the same or different vector] and today the term would be due to be studied in both, the moment you reviewed it in one of both schedules the term is no longer due in the other schedule (if it was for the same vector, the term is done and got it's new mastery level; if it was for a different vector the term will be due for review in the second schedule the next day; assuming you are doing by vector mastery and not by term mastery).

Mastery is attached to the word/term itself. Even if you have no schedules with the term it still keeps the mastery info.

I believe that flagging a term as don't study means don't study in any schedule.

I would suggest using the Japanese index tool here might not be your best choice.

If all you want to do is have a new schedule with only JLPT5 terms. I would just use the manage your schedules link (bottom right on dashboard), and create a brand new schedule and add lessons with those terms. Then, you can keep or delete the old schedule as you desire.

If you really want to fine tune your schedules, if you click on the + symbol by a term, it will give you the options to add/remove it from one or more schedules.

Woah that's much more simple and since the mastery stays the same across all schedules then I don't have to sort through all the words kao_think.png thank you!
