I think that threads and discussions are fun, so I wanted to make one about progress!
I've kind of fallen off with the whole "learning part" most of my days on renahuu are spent cleaning up the reviews that have piled up since school has started 🙈.
I do have to say, that since I've started learning on renshuu last winter, I can recognize kanji in the wild, I can guess the meaning correctly most times beaded on the radicals, I can sort of understand the meaning of the sentence, if no translation is given. And I've gotten down the basic counters - hitotsu, futatsu, so on! I can also go into a store and say the Japanese equivalent of the essential items there - weird, but fun.
Very thankful to have renshuu pro for the next 4 months, so I really want to:
4. Ehhhh.... Broaden my vocabulary to be able to talk/ write somewhat freely
I know, that my goals don't sound very big or enthusiastic, but I feel like I can actually reach those in the near future and that's what matters to me!
Nice thing you've already come so far!
1. About my progress, I'm currently studying on an N4 level, although I think I will soon start with N3. I can hypothetically write in Japanese but it's still not enough knowledge to keep up a fluent conversation unfortunately. But since I have renshuu I made like 10× of the progress I normally did so yeah it helped me out a lot too (^-^)
2. My goals are like your last two ones, I'm currently trying to write my diary in Japanese to just practise thinking in Japanese, and I need more in-use-vocab to talk about things : ) (and my grammar is baaad)
And I want to read books in Japanese. And calligraphy is cool too there's so much to do~
But yeah your level is way higher than mine so you probably have more experience on renshuu than I do. Good luck and keep up the good progress!
Man, you have made quite a lot of progress here! Hope to get as good as you someday!
1. I am a beginner. I don't really know the language well but I know quite a few words now and I can understand a small amount of phrases said in video games and anime!
2. I want to learn the language to be able to translate from it! I really like how it sounds and I also love to translate stuff so, yeah, that's the reason. I want my passion to become my real job someday!!
Good luck at learning Japanese!

Congrats on your progress and renshuu pro!
1. So far I've begun all the N3 schedules, but I don't feel very confidant in my abilities yet. I took a 2 month break and while I did forget a lot of vocab, it seems that my grammar skills got better. Even if I did almost nothing Japanese related. Go figure haha. I've begun writing a couple sentences a day to practice and try to think in Japanese as much as I can.
2. The reason why I'm studying Japanese is because I just enjoy it and find the language really interesting, so I guess my goal is to be able to understand anything a regular native speaker can understand. Kinda broad and maybe not the most exciting but that's enough for me!
My progress has slowed, I want to study every day but my mental health issues are really not helping me
I’m almost done with N5 grammar, not confident in my skills at all, I’m much better at understanding written and spoken language than writing on my own.
Confident in most N5-4 vocab and more from previous years of studying
My goals are being able to talk to my japanese friends in japanese rather than english :> and of course reading native material
I'm a total beginner, started a month ago. I've learned all the syllables and some basic words. I just started grammar. I can recognize a few things in songs, anime, and random posts, but not much (yet!) I plan to visit Japan with my husband within the next few years, so I'd like to at least learn enough to get by and be polite.
I've been interested in haiku in English translation, so I look forward to "getting" the original texts. I'm also interested in Japanese Buddhism, but I understand that's a whole other complicated thing. 😅
Basically my main goal is this: I'm giving myself a year to see how much I can learn, and go from there!
