I've heard なにしろ is more emotional.

I've heard なにしろ can be replaced with とにかく, but the other way around is not always the case.

Is the Reason Rule in the answer really correct? What are the actual differences between these two terms?

Both とにかく and なにしろ mean anyway/anyhow. In that sense, they are fairly interchangeable, e.g.:

彼女は(とにかく/なにしろ)信頼できる人だ。 = Anyway, she is a reliable person.

However, とにかく can also mean setting aside/regardless or more colloquially, really/definitely, like:

事実はとにかく露見します。 = The truth will be discovered regardless.

彼の健康がとにかく心配だ。 = I'm really worried about his health.

In these sentences, it cannot be replaced by なにしろ.

なにしろ is used to stress a reason or cause. So なにしろ寒いので emphasizes the cold more than とにかく寒いので does. But both are correct to say.

I assume that's what the linked answer was trying to get at...

And what about いずれにしても and とにもかくにも?
