I was reading this page: 】 と 【】 はどういますか? | HiNative and was a bit confused on XGpmn's answer. The impression I'm getting is that is more of an old-fashioned term, but are there other more major differences?

(I think I know that can be used alone, but is only a word extension/suffix)

There are of course different compounds each appears in, such as , , , etc.

If you're referring specifically to 's ところ reading, then XGmpn is correct. It's rare and only appears in a few older words, like お, or .

In fact, this reading doesn't even appear on the official joyo list:

Thank you! I'm assuming then, that the "ショ" reading of means what it says in the dictionary; "dealing with"?

has multiple meanings in the dictionary: dispose, manage, deal with, sentence, condemn, act, behave, place.

and are "deal with", yes. But is much closer to "dispose", and are from "sentence"/"condemn", while comes from "place" (originally used to describe a woman living in her home before the marriage).

In short, it differs from word to word. There's a reason all of those are listed... 🙂
