Used to express that something applies to a wider range. "not only me, but my whole family", "not only today, but the whole week", "not only the block, but the whole city".
I got a little bit confused between にとどまらず and に限らず. As far as I know, に限らずseems to be used to widen the range but toward something that would be usual and not really surprising (not only in this country but abroad too) . However, にとどまらず is used when the speaker wants to widen the range toward aspects that are not usual or expected (not only he makes food but the utensil for cooking).
The second, if it is correct, seems to suggest that にとどまらず is a stronger phrase, which might be interpreted as you did to be something out of the ordinary.
The grammar dictionary (日本語文型辞典）that I always use did not add any additional nuances to にとどまらず.
