I had suggested this grammar as a new grammar 'cause I couldn't find it in the grammar library (even from typing just the hiragana) and realized because it was using 答えて as the kanji spelling. Shouldn't it be 応えて instead of 答えて?
Thank you so much - although they are verified, occasionally a very small error slips through. I'm correcting it now!
Edit: The sentence was actually entered in correctly; there was a glitch in the word entry for ひく. Fixing that now, which will allow the sentence to appear properly!
The use of 答える in those example sentences is incorrect. It should be 応える but the example sentences have yet to be fixed. I even confirmed with some Japanese friends to make sure and they agreed. One wrote this:
「応える」
相手の要望(ニーズ)にこたえる時。
「答える」
単に質問にこたえる時。
Just think of the word 応援(おうえん)する, to support something. The grammar states that in response to that support, whether positive or negative, you are going to do something. So you use に応えて to show that you are replying/responding to the support. The English word "responding to" is why I think the confusion with 答える is happening.
Since the confusion exists, I think in the interest of education the examples and perhaps even the listing should contain the kanji as well, that's my vote anyway.
