をとおして can be use in a similar way to をつうじて but it doesn't appear in the second explanation. My teacher explain the difference between the 2 by saying that we use をとおして when chose of our own free will to use the means it is refering to, while をつうじて shows what means allowed something to happen. I am writing down what I was told, I have some difficulties understand it but I thought people ought to know just in case they found a sentence with をとおして and thhought it was a grammar mistake.
