向き and 向け
While these two expressions seem somewhat similar, they are in fact different.
向け focuses on the intended audience/target for an object. In other words, when that object was made or designed, it was done so with person/group A in mind.
向き (grammar page) describes whether an object is suitable or applicable to a person/group, and may not be the original target of the object.
In this example, the book might be a Japanese children's book, but it is suitable for beginners who are studying Japanese.
向け focuses on the intended audience/target for an object. In other words, when that object was made or designed, it was done so with person/group A in mind.
この本は子供向けだ。(correct)
This book is for children.
この本は読みやすいので、初級者向きだ。(correct)
This book is easy to read, so it's suitable for beginners.
