I found this grammar point in one of my textbooks as well but could not find it in any of my grammar dictionaries. The key difference was that the textbook did not cover と. In my textbook it states that な-adj should be followed with に and い-adj should change to their く-form. Because I was curious as to what the differences might be I asked a Japanese teacher, also my wife haha. She stated the use of と gives a strong feeling of 'seems'. If you use the other forms it is much lighter sense of seems and can be interchanged with みたい。She said if she were to give percents as to how plausible the 'seems' is for being true it would be about 90% for the use of と and maybe 60-70% for the use of に or く.
