Just wanted to add that マスターN2 also provides an example sentence in which the てこのかた-part is not followed by a negative clause (this is actually the same sentence as the first user-sentence on this site)- so maybe this rule is not all too strict. (=^_^=)

Assuming that このほう and このかた are not interchangeable, then the first example sentence "してこの、ずっとっていません" has the wrong この linked up.
