「食べて 済みません でした」Shouldn't this be translated, "I was sorry for having eaten it"? I'm thinking 「でした」 means the translation should also be past tense.
~てすみませんでした。 = Sorry for an action I’ve done
Use ~てすみません if the problem still continues.
You can use the less formal ~てごめん for both cases.
To apologize for having failed to do something, use ~なくて form.
