Lonely Castle In The Mirror, for sure. I read the English version, but it was originally Japanese. The language used was quite simple, though that could have been due to the translation. It's one of my favorite books ever

コーヒーがめないうちに is a book I loved reading. I think it’s around N2 level but the grammar is fairly straightforward and was a great read that’s really emotional but also very wholesome at the same time

I really like Hoshi Shinichi's short story collections. His story was assigned reading in one of my Japanese classes in college, and it's still one of my favorite short stories of all time. A lot of his stories are only a few pages long, and the language used is pretty simple, so they're easy to read.

Ohhh I've read his books before! They are really good! I really enjoyed reading きまぐれボット because each stories were only a couple pages long and they all had little twists here and there. I haven't read before but will check it out! Thank you!

Intermediate JP level? I really like また、ていた but it can be a bit slow at times

Currently working my way through Konosuba 1 but I don't care for it that much...

If you want manga then I really like the Chainsawman Manga (WAY better than the show) and Death Note

I’d recommend the Kirby (のカービィ) light novels, as unlike the games, they’re for young adults and aren’t too long.

"The Catch" () by Kenzaburo Oe

"The Tattooer" () by Jun'ichiro Tanizaki

"Rashōmon" () by Ryunosuke Akutagawa

I haven't read them in the original language, but they are good stories by famous Japanese writers and my favorites.
