These all sound like great options that are very similar to how I have been manually setting up my vocab and kanji schedules, so I'm all for these changes.

For type A, I imagine it would probably just ignore irregular readings, but what about in situations like 恐らく, where it isn't marked as irregular but the kanji doesn't list that reading?

Id use b. Whatever is in place I just have to be able to hear the readings, though.

For me the best one will probably be C, is actually what i'm trying to do right now with my schedule. Tbh i'm a new learner and I'm feeling quite overwhelmed with the amount of readings for a kanji (in fact i disabled questions about on/kun). I would like to study the kanji first with one main reading for it (the most common one) and then learn new readings by using the words in the associated vocab.

I'm also studying following a book (みんなの in this case) so it would be very helpful if I can set that as filter and be like "oh I want to study the kanji in the book chapter by chapter and use as reading the one of the words present in the book itself".

These changes look amazing!! I love all of them! I think I'd personally mainly use A and B but I can see C being very useful for different types of learners!

Would there be the option to only practice writing the Kanji of the word if all the Kanji in the word are known?

for example kimono's Kanji would only be practiced if both Kanji are known

I'm currently ding B manually, so I think B should be the priorty to implement.

For the third mode, would it be possible to have something else than the JLPT as an alternative? Like from a community list?

Or even better since the tag system is coming up, to select some tag based on our interest that will filter that appear.

Personally, I don't use the JLPT list at all anymore. So, if it's the only option, I would probably not use it.

JLPT won't be the only option :)

At the moment, this isn't planned, but it's worth considering!

Both B and C are features I've been internally wishing for for a long time

Personally, I have slown down on renshuu quite dramatically as of late due to focusing on grammar significantly more. Now that I'm quite adequate on my grammar, I feel, I am looking back on vocabulary. This is coming at a perfect time, as I was planning a full wipe of my kanji and a good portion of vocabulary. would be nice to learn them again with a system like this.

Option B would be great. I am finding that I am having an easier time linking meaning with kanji already, meaning pure kana messes with me on some vocab questions, so having the two together would be great.

This sounds like a good idea and I think I would use all 3. B and C would help my vocab and kanji overlap more, which makes it easier to remember and to actually understand text. Once I catch up with what I already know, I would use A to add more words and kanji to the system, based on what I and renshuu think I need.

I'd definitely use B, I've spent more time curating my vocab schedule than my Kanji schedules so having all the relevant kanji handy in one place would be sweet. All the words in my vocab schedule are words I've actually encountered in the wild, whereas a lot of the higher level Kanji Kentei lessons have kanji that are pretty much never used. As much as I like studying rare kanji it would be nice to be able to prioritize the vocab-based schedule before moving on to oddities.

I like the sound of the two new modes (B & C); they are exactly what I always wanted to relate my vocab and kanji learning. I'd love to try these modes.

As for filters, JLPT and the school levels are good. I'd like to see an option "do not show uncommon readings/vocabulary", because getting questions wrong for kanji readings or vocabulary that is not usually used is disruptive for the learning flow.

I just remember something but one of the things that I found difficult with adding common vocabulary to learn kanji is that it keeps adding words with... unknown kanji. While it's manageable at first, it really slow me down later because of the number of unknown kanji in my vocabulary list hence why I stopped using the renshuu list for the JLPT or Kanji kentei.
At the same time, now that I'm using my own list where I only learn word with kanji of the same level (for example, with the kanji kentei 10, I only learn word with kanji of that level), I'm face with another problem where I learn too much uncommon word that I end up not remembering too because they are too specific. Even if remembering the kanji reading became really easier.

So there is this trade-off between:
- Common vocabulary that is more useful but make it difficult to remember (be it the vocabulary or the kanji) because the number of unknown kanji keep increasing
- And uncommon vocabulary that is less useful but easier to remember if all kanji are from already known kanji, or at least study once.
An option to adjust that would be really great and improve the speed of learning in my opinion.

Another things is also kanji compounds. 3 or more kanji compounds are really hard to remember when you only remember 1 or 2 of the kanji. But at the same time, once you're know more or less most of the kanji in those words, they became really handy to work on a bunch of kanji at the same time. A good example is . I struggled a lot with the onyomi of the seasons at first. But once I started to remember that one, I never forgot again the onyomi reading.

So there is also a kind of switch here where:
- 3 or more kanji compounds really slow down the learning rate when you don't know most of them
- But later increase it because they act like an anchor to remember multiple kanji and reading by studying only one word.
So an option to block 3 or more kanji compounds would be great at the first stages. And later another one to include more of them.

For the two suggestion, one of the things that would really help is a way to check the level of the kanji in a word (be it from the JLPT or the kanji kentei or something else). Or to check if all the kanji in the word have been studied at least once. But I'm not sure either would be easier to code.
I just thought of something else but would it be possible to pre-assigned a level to each word based on the kanji in that word? For example, in , both of the kanji are from the kanji kentei 10, so the level would be 10 but in , is from the kanji kentei 8, so the level of would be 8. It could maybe help to select easier vocabulary to learn.
Anyway those are just suggestion but I hope some could be taken into account :3
Thanks for reading my too long paragraph o/

OK, so I'm unfortunately coming into this thread late, but these modes would literally be AMAZING. I've actually held off on starting to properly learn kanji using renshuu because I've encountered the exact problem of kanji and vocab readings not being linked like this. I've made some posts in the forums about it, too. These systems would literally make renshuu the best japanese learning platform imo, since I dont think that anything else really tackles the kanji-vocab reading pairing while also allowing you the flexibility of renshuu (aside from Anki, but that's very manual and takes lots of maintenance). Seriously man, if you implement this, this will be a paradigm shift for the platform.

Option A would already essentially fix any problems that I originally had with kanji readings, but B and C would likely be something that I'd use very often.

I dont know what restrictions you would face with adding reading filters, but I'm planning to go through the KKLC and if the vocabulary examples for each kanji get automatically added that would be insane (but not something I expect). Similarly, it could be cool to have alternate kanji definitions for using keywords like those in KKLC or RTK. At least, it would be nice if we had some tool to mass import custom definitions and set them for a schedule, maybe even having separate custom definitions for different schedules. But these are just suggestions, the modes that you have proposed here are FANTASTIC and I feel like they absolutely need to be implemented.

You can't truly learn a language by translating it.Maybe try adding pictures so that instead of Neko being cat it is 😺.that way we are relating to the object itself not the word
