As a beginner w/ kana knowledge, which approach is more appropriate to take? Kodansha Kanji Learner's Course or the Kyōiku kanji, based off JP school grades?

I've set up both schedules on renshuu but I'm quite unsure yet.

Also to note is that I like the idea of learning radicals before kanji.

I haven't used KKLC so I can't compare, but I learned in the Kyoiku kanji order first and it worked fine for me. Kanji is just a slow accumulation, so which order you use doesn't really matter as long as the kanji are relatively common and the system keeps you motivated.

If you like seeing kanji for their components and/or using those to create mnemonics, I used the adjusted Kyoiku lists from GeneticKanji.com, which add the broken down parts to the kanji list for each grade.

The downside of the Kyoiku lists is that there are some guaranteed useless kanji in there. Because they're part of national education, they have to include kanji that are used in things like the constitution, which you will practically never see outside of that context.

And not to give you more options, but if you search Community Lists for "optimized" under Kanji, I also have my own order I made (I fell off the horse after finishing Kyoiku, so I went back and made a list to re-learn with ). It's based on raw frequency in media, but rearranged so that components come first, so you can build up and make mnemonics.

Thanks for the recommendation. I assume you used this list? but it seems like it contains Kanjis until Grade 2, unless you don't really need that order(from genetickanji.com) from Grade 3 and up/ or the list is rather unfinished, although I'm unsure if it's that hard to port them to renshuu.

I'm looking forward to additional advice but thanks again.

I didn't use any premade list in Renshuu, I just copy and pasted the kanji from the GeneticKanji website directly into my schedule.

There's no real "porting" that has to be done to get them in Renshuu if you want to make your own, all you have to do is copy and paste each grade's list into Community Lists.

Big thank you. That actually might set off my start for kanji as I am planning on studying Elementary Japanese as of this summer, so it should somewhat not only help, but extend its contents.
