the example 戻 ろうにする doesn't seem to follow the conjugation rule which was given

Hello! I am not sure this is just me, but isn't the verb in this grammar piont suppose to be in the volitional form? As in 行 こう, 話 そう, 食 べよう etc. It seems to me that the construction you gave is an error. Or perhasp, the way shown in the construction is a variation to say "try". Yet again I may have just misunderstood, I don't know. Just thought I would bring it up. :)
No, not the volitional - the definition form + よう :)
Do you mean dictionary form? I just want to make sure I'm not mistaken.

On the N4 Grammar quiz, we have this sentence: 「少 しは覚 えよう
Is the bolded part correct? The answer is based on the "Try to 'A'." grammar and the rule require the use of the dictionary form; that being the case, would 「覚 えるよう」be the proper form?
I am not sure of what the proper grammar is, so I decided against sending a proposed correction.

Is it grammatically correct to follow a する verb with ようにする? I want to make sure it doesn't sound repetitive.
Yes, there is no such restriction. For example: 毎 日 勉 強 するようにする。 = Try to study every day.
Though, notice that in more polite speech it becomes: 毎 日 勉 強 するようにします。
What makes this different from 「ようとする」?
It's very confusing how both of them are "try to"... but somehow I don't get the nuance behind them

With [V-よう]とする you were about to try to do X, but didn't do X for some reason (e.g. because you were interrupted) (Verb is in volitional form.)
