Are you talking about books as in stories to read?

If so, this site is pretty awesome: https://ehon.alphapolis.co.jp/

It's a ton of free children's books divided up by age

We've read a couple of these during our conversation events in the renshuu discord :)

I would recommend the following:

Japanese Page (There's two free readers for beginners there, and they explain all the vocab and grammar. The Makoto magazine that they sell there has reading material for each level from N5 to N3 and they explain everything there too. I highly recommend it.)

Japanese Fairy Tales (A collection of Japanese Fairy tales sold by the same people who run the Japanese Page, and Makoto magazine. Again, all vocab and grammar is explained)

Tadoku books (These are free picture books, that are mostly intended for reading to get the gist of what is happening without looking up terms.)
