Unlike ~について, the following sentence typically doesn't include the details of the additional information. Instead, it provides the means to obtain it (e.g. 調べる, , , etc.) and/or the general theme of the information presented. It's also generally more formal than ~について. See マスター N2: 07.

する is also a variation of this grammar point. I looked and didn't find について on the site. In both of my books it shows up as a level 2 grammar point. I think it would be good to add it to compare it to this one. The meanings seem to be the same but they are used in different circumstances.
