I don't really get what the explanation has to do with the example. If にして means "after 3 months", then how is にして while, at the point, etc.? Shouldn't it mean "During those 3 months" or something like that?

it's a little convoluted to directly translate, but it might help to think of it as being "at the point that is three months from now" or "at the time three months (in the future)"

I find this gram. phrase difficult to get. There seem to be a variety of meanings apart from the "time" one.
