Can anyone tell me the difference between ~づらい and ~にくい?

I believe づらい is more formal. Hopefully someone else can back me up on that.

My co-worker - a junior high school level Japanese teacher - indicates they are both the same, and neither is any less or more formal than the other. I personally would rather say one over the other in certain circumstances, for example, as far as I know づらい is hard to confuse, where as... にくい... lol
