『ちなみに』là liên từ nối hai câu, với câu sau dùng để thêm thông tin liên quan có tính thứ yếu, tham khảo, vào phần giải thích của câu trước.
Lưu ý: không dùng『ちなみに』với nghĩa "đang làm hành động này thì tiện làm luôn hành động khác". VD:
✖ 買い物に出かけた。ちなみに、祖父母のところに寄った。
〇 買い物に出かけた。ついでに、祖父母のところに寄った。
『ちなみに』cũng có thể dùng để tạm đổi chủ đề đối thoại.
