Grammar usage notes
The ん ending on the verb is not abbreviated from the negative ぬ/ない, but from the archaic volitional form む. Thus, this is the same volitional+とする pattern as the ようとする grammar point.
I stumbled upon this archaic form in the first 真・女神転生 game, in the very first sentence uttered from "Stone Face". Of course you'll get kanjis only if they're supported in retrogames, but anyway here's the sentence:
「ここを通らんとするは何者ぞ。」
"You there, who are about to cross this place!"
(correct?)
The third sentence also has one more archaism, 汝, for "thou". Many thanks for the explanation, I actually fell for the negative ん form trap there^^
