そこで is used when B indicates an action (to be) taken because of the situation presented in A.
Basically, B is an action to solve or improve A. That is, the action in B must be controllable, i.e involves volition or will.
Examples
- 携帯電話が鳴った。そこで、図書館を出ることにした。
- My phone rang, so the volitional action I took to alleviate the situation was leaving.
- もうすぐ記念日。そこで、プレゼントを送りたいけど、どんな物がいいだろう。
- It’s almost our anniversary, so the volitional action I’m wanting to take is buying a present.
Remember, there are two requirements for using そこで: ① verb in B is volitional ② action in B solves/improves the situation in A.
In シャワーを浴びた。それで、頭がすっきりした, the verb isn't volitional, and showering isn’t a problem that can be helped by your head clearing.
Consider using それで.
