Usually followed by a negative
Often used with words like たとえ, いくら, or another question word at the beginning of the sentence. (Even if __, No matter how much __)
たところで can also mark the moment something happens. For example, in 「箒が浮いたところで、キキは振り返って、コキリさんにお別れを言いました。」, it means “Just as the broom lifted off the ground, Kiki looked back and said goodbye to Kokiri.” It’s not ‘even if’ or ‘although’ here.
