there are certain terms that use ちゅう and others that use じゅう - be careful not to mix them up! For example, the following almost always use じゅう rather than ちゅう:

the noun here is usually (but not always) either a verb stem (like し or え) or a noun that functions as a verb when する is added (like or )

Should this one have furigana ちゅう instead of じゅう?

It can actually be either, depending on what follows it. ちゅう is more common, though, so I'll change it to that and add a note about じゅう。 Thanks!

Is the difference that じゅう is for time words and ちゅう is for something else? Or can you just use them completely interchangeably?

After doing some research, the difference is a bit more complicated than I expected.

*Usually*, ちゅう refers to right when something is happening (e.g. it's in the middle of occurring). For example,

(かいぎちゅう) = in the middle of the meeting

じゅう always refers to an entire period or location during which something occurs. In other words,
With a time period, じゅう shows that the action continues across the entire time period.
With a location, じゅう shows that the action encompasses the entire area/location.
(いちにちじゅう) - all day

So think of ちゅう as being a specific point, whereas じゅう covers a wide area.

* : ちゅう can also refer to the second meaning - covering an entire period of time, but I kinda get the feeling that this usage is not as common.

With this in mind, the original markings for じゅう as the main reading for this page were correct!

a lot of the sentences here look like they're for ~ちゅう rather than ~じゅう... is there a separate page for ~ちゅう? Maybe it should be added as a different usage (or have the pages merged) to clear up the difference in nuance?

hmm, thinking about this, I'd almost think it'd be better to have this page an the ちゅう page as one page with all the usages on it - it might be easier to understand that way?

The notes for the second grammar point specify that it uses the ちゅう reading, not じゅう, but none of the example sentences provided use that reading. Either the sentences or the grammar description should be fixed.
