ok, it's just odd with the implanted meaning for げる being associated with it - how about the example sentences? 5 out of the 6 use the kanji...

Yea - it'll feed into the sentences as well; it's a pretty cool system :). Currently, all sentences (and the title of the page) show forms of あげる, with no kanji at all.
