Where this grammar is found
A Dictionary of Basic Japanese states that the disjunctive conjunction が could also be replaced by けれど or しかし.
The same phrase is repeated before and after ことは to indicate that the speaker acknowledges the fact but does not consider it particularly important.
the same as 一 応 A でも・しかし・ですが
Discussion about this grammar
This section has been archived, and no new posts can be added. Please use the discussion form(s) above.
it might be better to show that A and B are the same words; maybe instead of using A and B, list them both as A?
The site is currently unable of showing two boxes with the same character, so I tried to clarify a different way.
Thanks for the clear explanation. Intergrated Approach wasn't really clear on how to use it.
Is this grammar common in everyday speech?
I don't know if I'd say it's incredibly common, but it is used in conversation - it certainly isn't a rare grammar point!
べんりことはべんりがたかすぎる (although it's convenient, it's too expensive)
Should this not be 「べんりなことはべんりだがたかすぎる」?
Should be taken care of! It had just been added, and had not gone through the parsing tool yet.
some examples from N3
Sou matome :
ピアノは、弾 けることは弾 けるが, うまくない。I can play piano but not that well. このパック、高 いことは高 いけれど 、すごく使 いやすいです。you may think this bag is expensive but it's well designed.
The translation of this example sentence:
この車 はいい事 はいいが燃 費 が悪 い。 This cat has it's nice parts, but it's gas mileage is bad. (When I read this English without reading the Japanese first, I thought "that must be really smelly farts for a cat" xD)
It pains me to have to fix such an amusing typo.
